South Africa
skoonheid jy sal nooit vergeet nie

Margaret Roberts has been a household brand, associated with herbal food and health products, in South African homes since forever! The Margaret Roberts Herbal Centre, near Harbeespoort, incorporates everything Margaret was passionate about from medicinal, fragrant and kitchen gardens to apothecary, nursery and delicious food.

Maragret Roberts had over 50 years of experience in natural healing and had published 40 books when she passed away in March 2017 at the age of 79. She was an inspiration to many and a national treasure. Margaret’s daughter, Sandy, who had been in business with her for 30 years continues their work at the Herbal Centre ensuring that Margaret’s legacy continues for generations to come.

The Centre is designed to teach all about herbs, medicinal foods and natural wellness. It is an exceptional place, one of South Africa’s top ten gardens totally dedicated to organic farming and principles. Many lectures, workshops and demonstrations are held here and for this reason the Centre is only open to the public on Wednesdays and the first Saturday of each month. Visitors can attend lectures on Saturdays as well as view the gardens and purchase plants and herbs to start their own herbal or kitchen gardens!

A highlight is the collection of 30 varieties of Basil, Origanum, Lavender and Rosemary. Bring the family and walk the Labyrinth, rake your own pattern (in your own time) in the De-Stress Sand Garden and enjoy a delicious lunch in the tea garden. Another must-see while visiting is the tiny Chapel; Margaret who was also an excellent poet, wrote prayers for the animals and a few of these can be seen and read on the walls.
